I studied microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and chemistry at Otago University and did my PhD in microbiology under the supervision of Prof. John Tagg. After several years working overseas (Australia, Germany and Hong Kong), I returned to Otago as a senior lecturer and pursued a long-time research interest in medical microbiology including antibiotic discovery and understanding novel virulence factors in emerging bacterial pathogens. I now work for a Dairy ingredients manufacturer as a science project manager and QA manager for their production. My microbiological interests now centre around methods for detecting very low levels of pathogen contaminants of dairy/food products, in particular infant formula ingredients. I am also the current secretary and webmaster for NZMS.
