About NZMS

The New Zealand Microbiological Society is the organisation to which many professional microbiologists working in New Zealand belong | The aim of the society is to 'foster and disseminate knowledge of microbiology in New Zealand' | We have been doing this effectively for a long time; NZMS is 55 years old!

A brief summary of NZMS and its activities | We acheive our stated aims through representation on national and sometimes international committees, as well as with an annual scientific meeting and smaller workshops organised around specific themes. In addition, the society makes submissions on issues relevant to practicing microbiologists or to education policies in New zealand.

Membership of the society is open to all by application. Fees are maintained as modestly as possible and we particularly encourage students to join NZMS as part of their own professional development. We also offer some financial support (so-called grants-in-aid) to enable student members to attend the annual scientific meeting of the society.

NZMS is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers from all microbiological professions and backgrounds. The society governance and day to day management is carried by an executive in accordance with the constitution of the society.
