52nd Annual Meeting Student Speaker and Poster Awards:

This years annual meeting in Wellington was held in conjunction with the New Zealand Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Prizes were awarded for both student posters and oral presentations from both represented societies.

NZMS Distinguished Speaker Awards:

Each year at its annual meeting, the Society presents a member with the NZMS Distinguished Speaker Award. The award was started in 2001 and the awardee presents the society's official oration at the annual meeting.

Other Acheivements by Society Members:

Prof. Sandy Smith (from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Otago, Dunedin) was awarded a New Zealand Science and Technology Silver Medal by the Royal Society of New Zealand (on behalf of the New Zealand Government) in 2005. This medal is in recognition of his "exceptional contribution both nationally and internationally over 40 years to the area of medical mycology". Dr. Lance Jennings, QSO (Christchurch School of Medicine) was made a companion of the Queens Service Order for public services; this appointment was announced in the recent New Year Honours List from the Governor Generals Office. More information can be found here.
