NZMS Distinguished Speaker Awards | Each year at its annual meeting, the Society presents a member with the NZMS Distinguished Speaker Award. The award was started in 2001 and the awardee presents the society's official oration at the annual meeting. a conmplete list of previous Distinguished Speaker Award recipients can be found here.

Annual student prizes | each year prizes are offered for both poster and oral presentations at the annual scientific meeting of the society. A list of previous prize recipients can be found here.

New awards | the executive of NZMS has been looking at several new awards to recognise the acheivements of the many members of the society that contribute greatly to both microbiology in New Zealand as well as to our society. As a start to this the society has recently introduced two new awards for student, the American Society for Microbiology - New Zealand Microbiological Society Student speaker award will replace the current student speaker award at each years' annual scientific meeting and the new Australian Society for Microbiology - New Zealand Microbiological Society Postgraduate Research & Travel Award.
